The Sweetness of Life
As a young man in Dublin, Ireland, my great-grandfather dreamt of
fancy cookies and cakes, but mostly of freedom and opportunity.
He came to Ellis Island and was greeted by his two sisters
already living in Brooklyn, New York. After many long days of
working for other bakeries, he was able to save enough money to
open his own bakery. He later sold the bakery and went on to
become a successful Manhattan realtor. His life became sweeter
because of the opportunities that he found in America after he
arrived at Ellis Island.
