My great-grandfather, Timothy, grew up in the same Irish town as
my great-grandmother Mary. When they were young, they immigrated
separately to America, reunited in New York City, got married and
had my grandfather. Generations of family life in Westchester
County came to a halt when my father broke tradition and moved to
California. He married my mother, Leilani, whose parents were
from the Philippines. Cultures united when East met West, a new
kind of family was defined and a new kind of love was born…
I am a bi-coastal product of the promised land that is America,
and today I honor my ancestors who hail from lands both near and
far.
