My ancestors came to America from Russia, traveling through Ellis
Island and settling in Brooklyn, New York. As first generation
Americans, my aunt was an acclaimed opera singer and my uncle
played in an orchestra conducted by Toscanini. I grew up to
become an actress, playing many different roles. Like America, I
have strived to move effortlessly through time, culture and
context… Where else could an actress play in productions of
Gandhi and Medea, and later appear in a television show called
Sex and the City? America has been my stage, and for that, I will
always cherish it and the people who have made it worth watching.
