Freedom's Price
(As told by Alan, seen here with daughter, Hollie) My
great-grandfather left Austria and came to America in 1907, armed
with both education and skill. Yet, he accepted the cost of
freedom by gratefully working odd jobs like selling tomatoes and
jewelry, and even working on the boardwalks guessing people's
weight for money. It was a small price to pay to be free from
tyranny and religious persecution. The sacrifices that my
ancestors made helped paved the way for me to focus on my
education and become a doctor. My great grandfather's sense of
obligation to his family created the opportunity for my later
success. For this, I will always be thankful.
