Two young men from a small Italian town yearned for adventure and
a better life. Together, they traveled to Paris, then the French
coast and set sail to America by way of Ellis Island. Skilled
carvers, they were soon hired by the Rockefeller family to work
on the family's estate. The mens' work prompted the Rockefeller
family to sponsor the passage of 400 artisans who brought their
traditions and skills to America. One of those adventurous young
men was my grandfather. I honor his sense of adventure and
determination to build a better life for his family.
