(As told by William, seen here with daughter Jennifer) As a
twelve-year-old prodigy, I arrived in America in 1951 and stayed
on Ellis Island for two months. For the first time, I heard the
lilting sound of Chinese voices and other foreign noises that
would influence my music forever. I became one of America's
virtuoso violinists. Today I sit in the first violin section of
the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. and play
beautiful music for a living. My musical daughter, Jennifer,
follows in my footsteps. Ellis Island represents the gateway to a
new life and realizing the American dream.
